AnonymousI am trying to define should I use the definite article before "economic security of the state"? I ... firstly use the whole phrase and then its abbreviation ESS. In both cases, I am not sure if the article required.

Thank you for your reply! This is appriximately what I want to say. But in your reply I see that you use "an ESS" and ESS without any article, and then with "the". In the case with "the", you use the definite article because this is about ES of definite states or because this is economic and not military or social security? How to define when to use the article and when to have zero article? Yuliy
