EC and UK

Hi

How do you understand this sentence: We have acted on numerous EC and UK cartel investigations.

EC=European Commission

Does it mean that they acted on numerous investigations in EC and UK, or maybe something else?

Does it make sense: We acted on investigations in European Commission and United Kingdom.

thanks

Hi, I suggest that this whole sentence needs rephrasing, because it does not seem to consider the fact that the UK is part of the EC. Clive

Hi,

What's the difference between an EC investigation and a UK investigation? What I mean is, why can't you call a UK investigation an EC investigation? Does an EC investigation have to involve more than one country in the EC?

I didn't write this sentence. I'm just trying to translate it, and I don't get it just like you,

I would take an EC investigation to mean something instigated at international level - although it may only involve one country (and here we aren't told that it is the UK in any case, they might have been working in France for example) it was on behalf of part of the EC governmental/regulatory system and organised from Brussels. (EC HQ)

Just a small question: Why did you translate EC as European Commission, Newguest? In the context it seems more likely to mean European Community.

I think Nona's comparison to the US sounds logical. Here in the US there can be investigations at a state level as well as at a federal/national level.
