Eat

Could you say ' I wanna eat you' to a child meaning something sweet? Can you say that in English? By the way, I am not a cannibal.

There is nothing to stop you saying that Maj, and we know you probably prefer pizza - but the poor child would probably be terrified!!! Is that a common thing to say in Spanish? Are there many kids there that bathe in Tabasco to help deter such attacks?

I am glad you have heard that Mike. Because I think that is what I wanted to say. I'd also like to thank you rommie but ' You sound so sweet I could eat you' would be more appropiate in that other context. I would say 'I'd would smother you with kisses' when I want a child to do something and he refuses to do. Gosh I am a bit confused. Do I sound confused?

Well, I can understand you maj, as we can say actually the same in German - "You're so sweet, I could just eat you" meaning that the person (not necessarily a kid) is really cute, smiles at you in a very sweet way, maybe does a favour for you or you just can get along with you very well or whatever else.
