As far as I know, the moon has no "earth" to look at. Would it not be logical to call us "earth" rather than "the earth"?

From what I know and learned in my early grades, you capitalize it when you refer to it in an astronomical way.

To me, "the earth/Earth" seems a very common and familiar phrase.

I agree, GPY. The Earth is round (almost). Earth is the third planet from the Sun. From the Moon, Earth is a planet. Maybe it is semantics at work?!

For me, "earth/Earth" with no article feels more "astronomical", so, tying in with what Little Girl said, I think that's why I feel it is more in need of a capital.

Partial consistency, I'd say. For complete consistency, What does Earth look like from Moon? What does Earth look like from Sun? And so on.
