I think it should be "the earth", and you need to capitalize the first letter of the first word in a sentence. Otherwise, I guess it's fine:

How did the earth get to be the third planet from the sun?

I think "earth" and "sun" could be capitalized too.

Hi, Kooyeen,

Wouldn't that be like asking "How did the Mercury get to be the fifth planet from the sun?

Cheers, - A.

Hi,
hmm, I don't know... [:^)]
Is my sentence wrong with "the Earth"? I think I've usually seen it with the article, like in "The earth revolves around the sun" (example from Longman Dictionary). Would "Earth revolves around the sun" be ok too?
Mercury is different, lol... I wouldn't use the article.
Thanks.

My understanding is that you can call it by name, as one of the planets. "The Earth," on the other hand, means much more to us than just another planet.

I don't see "sun" capitalized, except on "The Daily Sun."

Which planet do you live on? (reply) Earth.

Which continent do you live on? (reply) Antarctica.

Which hemisphere do you live in? (reply) The south

The order of the planets, starting at the sun, is Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, et cetera, so Earth is the 3rd closest planet to the sun. Is this what you need to know?

Shouldn't it be "starting from the sun"?
