Earn/get bad reputation

Dear teachers,
Can I say like this?:

Jack :John, one of my students are very weak at/in English. His parents told me they wanted to invite you to tutor him/to give him private lessons in English.Do you agree with their invitation?
John: OK but on the condition that their son must be studious. If he is not studious and very lazy,I will not tutor him because if he studies badly, I will get/earn bad reputation.

Thank you in advance
