Vocabulary

eager and eagerly

I learned recently that the adverb 'eagerly' is not used often in modern English.
How about the adjective 'eager'? I have the impression that 'eager' is used quite frequently in contemporary English. What are your thoughts on this?

It is not true that "eagerly" is not often used in modern English. It may be true that it is less common than formerly. Both "eagerly" and "eager" are fine to use.

Eagerly is certainly often used.
Probably eagerly is more likely to be written than spoken, unless you are speaking in a way that evokes a written style... you'd be less likely to use it of yourself than of others, since it can convey a certain dog-like enthusiasm.
