each or both or none of them is correct in the following sentence?

The Expo site spans both sides of the Huangpu River
The Expo site spans each side of the Huangpu River

Use "both sides". "each side" sounds more as if something applies separately or individually to each side in turn, rather than jointly to both at the same time as is the case here. "every side" is wrong because "every" implies more than two, but a river only has two sides.
