Grammar

each of you

Hi, I thought each is a singular, therefore a singular verb follows.
But, why everyone (including myself) says 'Each of you are...' , instead of 'Each of is'?

Very confused...

That's a rather fussy point of grammar, especially when you consider that "are" is right when it's "you each are". People don't think that hard about it and say what sounds good to them. "Are" sounds good because "you" is right next to it, and "you is" is Porgy-and-Bess talk. Grammar is a bossy little girl sometimes, and we get tired of her nagging.

Glad to know the true answer.

It's like my mom's response when I started learning how to drive.
When I asked her if it was acceptable what she had just done, she said 'Yes it is.'
, which she actually meant 'It's fine to do it so (for the circumstance for her convenience ).'
