Dwarfs

What does "" here mean? I looked it up in a dictonary and foud that it means "small". But I can't understand it in this sentence. Can you please explain it?

"One possible way out is to pay considerable attention to the grain size of all computations. Starting up a small computation remotely, such as adding two integers, is rarely worth it, because the communication overhead dwarfs the extra CPU cycles gained."

Top answer

"dwarfs" is a verb here. If X dwarfs Y, it means that X is comparatively very much larger than Y.
