"during today" (very common mistake in my class :-)

Hi,

It's just my guess .... "during today" (*) is not grammatical, is it?
I think so because I haven't been able to find a single instance of (*) anywhere in the .com/.org Internet....

And I have similar problems with the phrases "during last week" or "during next year". Are these correct English?

I am pretty sure that
(1.1) "I will be out of town next week" is fine,

but not sure about (1.2), (1.3), and (1.4)

(1.2) "I will be out of town during next week" (probably broken?)
(1.3) "I will be out of town during the whole next week"
(1.4) "I will be out of town all over next week"

If you could correct (1.2)...(1.4)?

There is nothing wrong with the grammar; it is simply that we do not use 'during' with such idiomatic adverbs as today, next week , etc. so I'm not sure what developments have occurred during today. And then mother rented a house on Bedford in Beverly Hills, which during next week was vacation time for Easter.

  • I'm going to be taking him down to a very conspicuous place during next week.
