during our relationship

<a woman who has just seperated from her boyfriend>

During our relationship, he had never given me any precious presents. Nothing!

Is the sentence correct and natural? It doesn't sound natural to my ear.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Clive.
How about 'in our relationship' or 'when we were together'? Any difference?

Hi,
OK, except you still need to use 'during' or 'while' to get the idea of 'over a period of time'.
