During + Gerund Possible ?
Please see the following sentences.
1) During washing my cloths, I had to get a phone call from my friend.
2) During preparing a speech, I had to get a phone call from my friend.
Were both wrong ? "During" is a prepostion. Can't I use a gerund there ? Does this prepostion of "During" requires only a noun ?

Could you tell me a little more ? I know I can use it with "while", but you answered it should be "While", which means the sentences in the above like "during washing my cloths, they're wrong ? I think you need a noun determiner with the gerund in this case: during the washing of the car; during the planning of the program; during the warming of the climate. Perhpas another teacher could add to the explanation. Let's see what someone else comes up with.
