Duration with past tenses

Hello, I am studying English and I am not sure about these sentences. I would be glad if you could help me.

When I was a child, I read a book for two hours every day. or When I was a child I was reading a book for two hours every day.Could you please tell me which one is correct?

When I was a child I often read a book. or When I was a child I was often reading a book. I want to express that I did some reading not that I read the whole book.

Thank you very much in advance.

These are general statements so I would use the past simple (read) tense for both of them.

You have three choices when you want to express that sort of thought.

When I was a child I [read / used to read / would read] [a book / books] for two hours every day.

When I was a child I [often read / often used to read / would often read] [a book / books].
