dumb reporter

You know what's funny? I'm sure you have watched the flooding in the Midwest. Did you notice that the reporters who cover the story always do one similar thing? Yes. They always stand or walk into the water to give their viewers an idea how deep the water is. The funny thing is most of the times, it's clear from the surrounding partially submerged road signs, trees, cars, and houses. One reporter overdid it. He stood right in front of a partially submerged house with water up to his waist and the house's windows. What a dumb reporter.

Please correct any mistakes.
Thank you.

You know what's funny? I'm sure you have (watched) seen/heard about the flooding in the Midwest. Watched is possible but means you were watching it for a period of time - doesn't sound quite right here

Thank you, MM and Optilang.

I have a question.

1. What's the difference between obvious and clear. Is it better to change to obvious?

.
In this context, I feel the meaning of 'clear' is unclear-- is it 'clear water/depth' or 'clear that the water is deep'? Any potential for ambiguity, even if only momentary, should be avoided.

MM, I understand why you changed it and in fact, it reads better with the change. Actually my follow up question was a totally different question which has no relevance to my original post. I wanted to know the difference between obvious and clear and the only reason I posted here was that I didn't have to come up with another example. I think I should create a new thread to discuss this topic tho
