Dumb FD Question

Question

I've prolly asked this before and am shamed to do so again, but there's
something I'm not getting right. I want to save the title page for a Final
Draft screenplay, but it never saves it. Can someone, baby steps- style,
walk me through? Thanks.

I had a demo version of Final Draft for awhile that had the opposite problem. It would put a default title page in front of every script, even the ones that were one page long. And there was nothing I could to get rid of it.
So I went to the Final Draft website and downloaded a slightly newer demo version that "corrected" the problem. It did correct "that" problem. Problem is it completely whacked out the formatting in the rest of the script. And I couldn't change that.
Now these were demo versions, a tool used to sell people on the "fabulous Final Draft product". So, if they can't get the demo right, it doesn't give me much confidence in the company.

I played with Final Draft about a year ago for awhile and I wouldn't touch it with a 500-foot pole. I cleared it off my computer and never want to see it again.
It makes me appreciate MMS2000 even more.
If you need this for an actual printed script, I would just do the title page in a word processor. But if you want to print to PDF it might be a little more difficult.

Last time I looked, FD (Mac version - which as far as I know is pretty much identical to the Windows version) creates a title page for every project and you fill in the details. After that you don't see it on screen, but it's still there. You can opt to print it or not -to PDF or to printer. I seem to remember you can also just print thetitle page. In other words the setings are pretty versatile, and FD operates much the same as it does in Screenwriter.
In other words dig around a bit in the settings and the print settings - I think you can have whatever want.

Probably you can now. But a year or two ago it wasn't something you could do without downloading a "fix". And in my case, when I downloaded the "fix", the cure was worse than the disease. There was a monthly, maximum-five-page screenplay contest I used to follow and it would get around 50 or 60 entries a month. The scripts had to be submitted in PDF format and since it was a contest you weren't supposed to have a title page. Probably 25 scripts a month had the default title page on them from Final Draft and the people who ran the contest said they would allow it since there was no way to get rid of them when printing to PDF in Final Draft.
I haven't really been following the contest lately but you're probably right, the problem has probably been corrected.

If you didn't want the title page could you instruct it to print from Page 2 to Page 6?
Simpler still: Save As RTF, Open it in Word and delete the Title page.

At the time a lot of people were fighting it. And Final Draft, on their website, acknowledged the problem and even had a "fix" for the problem.

I was using Windows, maybe the other people were too. There were instructions on how to "not print" the title page, but following those instructions wouldn't change anything. It would still print at least when you were printing to PDF. (I never tried any other printing method.)

I was ******** around with a demo version mostly because others had complained about it and I was trying to find a way to make it work.

It might have something that didn't last long and may have been taken care of soon after I stopped messing around with it. But the problem was real. At least in the Windows version.

It's no prob just typing up the title page on the format FD provides (that is, in fact, what I want), but it won't, for some reason, hold it in memory.
