Duke Church

On Easter Sunday, March 26, 1967, we went to church in the Duke Chapel, a grand Gothic church. (My Life)

I think "Duke Church" is the name of a place, not of a church. Right?

The church in "we went to church in the Duke Chapel" is a grand Gothic church. Right?

Top answer

The confusion may be due to two uses of the same word "church". "went to church" means attended services, gathered together for a religious ceremony. "Gothic church" is a building in an architectural style called "Gothic".
