My Internet research seems to indicate that “dues” as in something that one pays for membership in a group or organization is a plural noun. However, (il)logic tells me that the dues I pay is a singular item—whether it’s a check or a wad of cash. It’s something that I pay—not a number of somethings. So, from the expert: Is ‘dues” plural or singular? Thanks!
