Due to development and rapid expansion supermarkets in some countries, many small, local businesses are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local business will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you...

Hypermarkets are developing rapidly around the globe which as any other modern development this too has its cons and pros. Some people think this phenomenon can be a threat to small societies and their survival. Since I totally disagree with this statement, in the following essay I am going to explain why I believe the benefits outweigh the negative impacts.

To begin with, supermarkets provide a vast range of products from both local and world-known brands. Due to the enormous purchases, they are able to provide customers with the least prices possible and all sorts of offers and discounts. There are various lines of goods to buy and they are barely out of stock. So consumers waste less time looking for what they need in different stores, they have much more options to choose between, and they also benefit financially.

Secondly, these modern markets require a massive staff and by hiring locals they can create new job opportunities for the community and help the economy grow. Not to mention, to avoid expensive freight fees and make more money, these corporations are willing to sign contracts with local businesses and this also can be a win-win situation. Shop owners can sell their products cheaper, albeit in huge numbers.

To sum up, globalization is unavoidable in the twentieth century, and considering the above reasons, it can even be more convenient for local communities and businesses. Looking forward to a bright future, we must keep adjusting to the world’s changes in order to survive.
