Due to

1.Due to the events in Asia, the organizers cancelled the concert.

2.Due to an illness, he couldn't attend the meeting.

3.Due to illness, he couldn't attend the meeting.

4.The football match couldn't play due to rain.

5.The football match couldn't play due to the rain.

I am not sure when to use 'due to' and 'due to the'. Could you please tell me?

They didn't play the match due to rain/because of rain.

After a couple of days, when writing to someone, you would write:

The match couldn't be played due to rain.

If you wish to use 'football match' as the subject of your sentence, you must cast the verb in the passive voice: 'The football match couldn't be played (by the teams) due to the rain.'
