I was wondering if somebody could tell me if either or both of these phrases are correct:

"the difference was primarily due to"

"the difference was due primarily to"

I believe the latter is technically correct but it appears that both are commonly used. I was surprised not to see this addressed by the Grammar Girl (a favorite); no one else seems to think this is an issue.
