Dry

My principal asked me why weren't I am not in the uniform.

I told him

Sir yesterday I hung my clothes under the sunlight to dry them, but rain came suddenly so they got wet that's why I am in outdress.


Is that grammatically correct. And exactly it happened don't know rain come out of nowhere.
