This is my script for my oral assignment. I wrote this with reference to some websites( drug names, effects....)
Are there any mistakes? (Note: This may be controversial as I used Winehouse as an example)
Good morning to our teacher, Mr Daniel Pan and my fellow classmates. Today, I would like to talk about drug addiction.
Nowadays, teenagers are experiencing a lot of stress in their daily lives. More and more teenagers have resorted to using drugs to release stress. The truth is that drugs do not help you release stress. Instead, they just made you feel happy, high and good about yourself for a short moment. These so-called happy drugs include cocaine, heroin , ecstasy and marijuana.
The most abused drugs in the world are heroin, cocaine and Methamphetamine.
First, let’s talk about heroin. Upon crossing the blood-brain barrier, which occurs soon after introduction of the drug into the bloodstream, heroin is converted into morphine, which mimics the action of endorphins, creating a sense of well-being. In other words, heroin makes you high and you will start to feel like the greatest man in the world.
Let’s move on to cocaine. Cocaine send your pulse racing and you would feel like an invincible God for a while. When the effect start to wear off, you would feel worried and an intense pain in your brain. This is what makes you addicted to it. As soon as you take the drug, you feel like a God. As soon it wears off, you feel depressed.
Finally, let’s talk about methamphetamine, commonly known as meth or ice. Meth, like all happy drugs, make you excited. When the drug wears off, you would feel like eating and sleeping.
Many people think that there is no way out of drug addiction. Once a person is hooked, he’s hooked for life. He will be doing drugs and probably die due to drug overdose. As an example, Amy Winehouse, a great British singer just passed away a few weeks ago. She was into cocaine and she couldn’t quit it. She died tragically young at the age of 27. Everyone thought that she was just a good girl who was on her way to the top of the entertainment industry and she even sang a song named Rehab. No one knew the truth behind her career.
Now, just imagine if you were her, living the good life and having everything you want. Would you want to end it all just to satisfy your needs? No, we will never do such a silly thing.
But, what if you were already into drugs? Do you think that you were ever quit?
Well, I believe that everyone has a second chance in life. Even though drugs are addicting and capable of destroy lives, a person will be clean of drugs if he has the willpower to do so.
A person has full control of his destiny. If there’s a will, there is a way.
What can you do if you want to quit drugs?
The most important thing is that you should seek help immediately. Sign up for rehab or consult a doctor. Remember, no man is an island, you can’t handle this on your own. As time goes by, you will be able to get your hands of drugs once and for all. The end of your drug addiction would be the defining moment of your life.
Before I end my talk, I would like you all to know that life is priceless. Don’t do drugs.
