I think that "dropped over" means "came to visit", and "our ways" means "our way", i.e. "our direction/vicinity".

Well I think I've heard it with the same meaning but I can't understand what "came to visit" have to do with the sentence. I just can't get it. And I asked as I thought it may have some other meaning but probably it doesn't.

In the story, which I skimmed very rapidly, this person has travelled from the West (of America) to New York in order to meet an old friend, so "came to visit" seems to make sense to me. Is there some aspect that
