Dropped or have dropped?

Hello, guys! I have a question. There's a situation from the dialogue from an English grammar book:
a boy:mum,I dropped the glass on the floor.
mum:never mind, just be careful next time.
Why is "dropped" used instead of "I've dropped"? It seems to me it has happened right now or recently or maybe some hours ago,but it doesn't matter, because the emphasis here is on the action. So why isn't here "I've dropped"? I've been learning English for two years and the present perfect is more logical for me in this case. But what about spoken English?
