Dropped anchor

Its the captain who leads from the front yet again for India. Chasing a steep target, they got off to a disastrous start, losing 3 wickets for just 51, but Kohli and Dhoni forged a stupendous 152 run partnership for the 4th wicket. Kohli missed his 2nd ODI ton but Raina dropped anchor and chipped in with a crucial 51 along with MSD who scored his 7th ODI ton and his 3rd outside India to take them to a well deserved win. It was so near and yet so far for the home side who have a lot of positives to take from this match. Join us in a short while for the presentation..

Could you please explain to me what "dropped anchor" means in this context?

I know "anchor" means "a support", but no idea what "dropped anchor" means here.

Hi, When a ship drops anchor, the ship stays in one place. I take it to mean this. He took his position at the wicket and stayed there , despite the other team's attempts to 'get him out'.
