"drop the beats"

Hi

Would you tell me the meaning of "drop the beats" in the sentence below?

The bus has been ready for two hours but the star is not. He drops the beats and he'll tell you when he's ready.

Thanks,
M

mitsuwao23 He drops the beats and he'll tell you when he's ready. Sounds like he's the leader of a rock band. I haven't heard it put exactly that way, but I suspect it means he kicks off the tempos to start the songs.
