Drop the act

Hi

I heard the phrase drop the act in a film where a person is telling his sister not to act or stop pretending. He knows the truth. Could you please tell me if this is common/natural in everyday English?

Oh, come on, Betty, drop the act. I know you took the files.

Thanks,

Tom

I don't hear that much. It seems a bit outdated to me. What I do hear sometimes is eg Oh, come on, Betty, don't act (all) innocent, I know you took the files.
