drop in social class

is this idiomatic how to better it?

We've dropped in social class. Our family used to belong to the upper class, now we're a middle class family.

Hi, We've dropped in social class. Our family used to belong to the upper class, now we're a middle class family. These remarks do not seem at all idiomatic to me, because I almost never hear people speak about the upper class in North America.
