Rose: Hey Steven! What's up?
Steven: Nothing. I just want to stop by to say hi.
Nothing. I just want to drop in to say hello to you.

Normally, I would use the simple past tense instead of present
I just wanted to stop by and say hi.
I just wanted to drop in and say hello.
