Should the first part of this be in quotation marks, as part of the driver's speech?

"Chen Shengshen? A great/famous/important mathematician, wonderful! Every Tianjinese who has ears knows him! What a talent he is!"

The driver was very proud of Mr. Chen, and at the same time he was looking around, trying to find a flower shop on the street, so that we could buy some to present to Mr.Chen.
