''Drive by my house'' what does ''by'' means here?

''I used to drive by their house'' I know ''by'' means ''past'', but in these contexts I'm assuming ''by'' is just indicating you're visiting someone as in ''come by'' and ''drop by'' Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

These expressions suggest a casual visit,
eg while you are passing on your way to some other place.

Hmmm. Not to me. I would use "drop by" or "stop by" to mean a casual visit.
eg.
A "drive-by" shooting is a gangland killing in which the assassin's car slowed down, but never came to a stop.

I was referring to come by and drop by. Not to drive by.
