"drink"

"I buy him a drink in return for his help."

Would someone please tell me does "drink" mean "wine" or "beverage" here? or it depends on the context?

Thank you in advance.

There's no way of knowing what type of drink. However, in most contexts it would mean an alchoholic drink ( a soft drink or cup of tea/glass of water isn't much of a 'thank you').
