Dress fits

If you say I hope the dress I bought fits, would you say that about address you think might be too small or also too big? If the dress is big it'll still fit so would you use that only if you think the dress is small?

"It fits" suggests that it is the correct size, or at least close enough that you could wear it without it looking too big or small. You wouldn't say it fits if it is far too big, even though you could put it on.
