Drawn in eyes

What does the part in bold mean here? Plz explain the grammar of that part also.

? Anna Leporskay's three figures paintaing recently was on exhibit at the yeltsin center in Russia. The faces on the three figures were blank with just a suggestion of features until a board security guard with a ballpoint pen decided two of them needed drawn in eyes.

It should be "drawn-in eyes". Note the hyphen. The eyes were eyes that were drawn in. They were drawn on the painting after the painting was completed by the artist. The eyes were drawn in later. "Draw something in" is a phrasal verb meaning to add something by drawing.
