Draw the curtains

When I draw the curtains, am I closing or opening them? Does it depend on the situation?

Thanks.

Interesting. My first impression is that 'draw the curtains' is closing them and 'draw back the curtains' is opening them, but I'll bet that other members see 'draw' as pulling in either direction.

Thanks, Mr. M. I'm curious to know what others will say, but I can certainly use "draw back" now in my homework.
