Dragged

He went to an armchair, dragged it to the middle of the room, and motioned for her to sit.

Would 'dragged' mean that he pulled/dragged it along the floor or would you take it to mean that he picked it up and carried it to the middle of the room?

Could I easily use 'pulled' instead?
