DRAFT CARDS

Heloo,
I'm not sure about what DRAFT CARDS does mean here:
'In a few year's time a shit storm would be unleashed. Things would begin to burn. Bras, draft cards, American flags, bridges, too- everybody would be dreaming of getting it on.'

Maybe it does mean bill letters?
Could someone help to me?
Thanks in advance, Jo.

Hi, Broadly speaking, all young American males must register for potential service in the army. 'The draft' refers to the calling up of such people to the army. Ths can also be referred to as 'conscription'.

Women are still excluded. Men must register, in the highly unlikely event they ever reinstate the draft. The armed forces of the U.S. are now (and has been for some time) entirely voluntary. However, in the 1960's, it was a different set of circumstances.
