Dozen

Hello,

could you please tell me if "dozen" (e.g. a dozen eggs) is used often in English? Does it go with any 12 objects or is it limited in use to for instance eggs or buttons?

It's most often used with eggs and baked goods (doughnuts, bagels, etc.).

For other things, I use it as an estimate: There were about a dozen people at the party.
