For me it would sound better if we knew what the never ending topic was:

..........when it came to the never ending topic of XYZ.

It's OK but a little too much in one sentence, I think. Something about an as clause followed by a whenclause bothers me, but it's just a vague unease.

Doesn't flow. Perhaps:
He started to doze off as the meeting continued to revolve around that same never-ending topic.
