downtown dock front

The regeneration of the city's downtown dock front will put it on a par with Nice or Cannes.

I think, the "downtown dock" means (central or very important dock (i.e. where ships halt) in the city).

But what the `front' means here?

Top answer

" That means the part of town that is right alongside the river, lake, ocean, etc. Perhaps in other dialects, "dock front" is uesd the same way. Downtown does mean that it's cental to the city, not in the outskirts or suburbs.

Hi again Gary,

Don't separate "dock" from "front."

The American term is "waterfront." That means the part of town that is right alongside the river, lake, ocean, etc. Perhaps in other dialects, "dock front" is uesd the same way.

Downtown does mean that it's cental to the city, not in the outskirts or suburbs.

dock-front = water=front. It just means the area of the docks near the water.
