Down on the ground

I'm writing a story, somewhere in it we both follow some people on the roof of a tall building and some people down on the ground.

Is "down on the ground" correct if I should jump from the perspective of the people on the roof to the people on the ground...

Meanwhile, down on the ground, people could see the smoke erupt from the roof of the building.

?
