"David Ferrer stared defeat full in the face three times but staged an epic comeback from two sets down to beat fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almago."
Looks "an epic comeback" is a compounding noun but I couldn't understand the meaning of "down" at all in this sentence. Couldn't someone explain to me what "down" means in this sentence?
Thank you for your answers in advance.
Top answer
If Almago had won four sets and Ferrer two, then Ferrer was two sets down and Almago was two sets up.
