"down" of "two sets down"
Please look at this sentence.
"David Ferrer stared defeat full in the face three times but staged an epic comeback from two sets down to beat fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almago."
Looks "an epic comeback" is a compounding noun but I couldn't understand the meaning of "down" at all in this sentence.
Couldn't someone explain to me what "down" means in this sentence?
