Doubts, help please

Thank you for your time and effort.
I have some doubts.
I need synonyms for:
-give medal, I miss verb to stress that it is not ordinary giving (like, 'give a pencil'), but includes ceremony
-transmit (it sounds too technical to me) in 'transmit dominant values on new generation'
Also, should it be:
-to inspire 'devotion for liberty' or 'dedication to liberty' (meaning love and loyalty)
-when lots of people make some shapes as a part of spectacle, they form it from/with/of their bodies?
-when you have plans, but event 'took the opposite direction' or 'went in opposite direction' or...

If anyone has time to answer me, I will ne grateful
Thanks,
Danka
