Doubt in sentence

Dear all,

I would like to know whether the following sentence is correct. When I see this sentence I feel that "had been" is not apt there as it shows something that happened before he came to France. Kindly enlighten me on this.

"I had been traveling a lot when I was living in France".

Thanking you.
