Double-teamed him with Reid

Hi, I know to team with someone mean something like "To get together" to be his partner, but the double here made it hard for me to understand ...

"He made them to Obama as well, and repeatedly; in one instance Schumer even double-teamed him with Reid. Although Schumer was careful to signal that home-state decorum would prohibit him from opposing Clinton publicly—“You understand my position,” he would say—he left no doubt as to where his head and heart were on the question."

Top answer

Yes, it seems to me that 'double' is redundant here (unless Schumer is speaking of his own 2-member team together with a 2nd team of Obama+Reid). Please check the greater context.

"Double-teamed" is a sports expression and it can be very confusing.
