double restriction?

Hi, teachers. In my opinion, the following sentences use double restriction*, especially boldfaced words.e.g. Is there anything (*that*) you want *that* you have not.Look at the example below. Are they double restriction, too?Calcutta, the last major metropolis with a traditional rickshaw fleet still in operation, banned them following a state law *passed* last week *declaring* the vehicles inhumane."passed" and "declaring" respectively modify a state law?Yet it has become harder and harder for people to find anything *to* *do* *or* *use* *that does not come with some built-in anxiety."to do or use" and "that" respectively modify anything? Many thanks!

jasnkid Calcutt a , the last major metropolis with a traditional rickshaw fleet still in operation , banned them following a state law passed* last week *declaring the vehicles inhumane. I am afraid I couldn't follow you 100% on the "double restriction" in respect to the Calcutta sentence. But If my guess is correct, that kind of construction is not recommended, and should be avoided if possible.

  • To me, I think the passage needs a slight revision in order to make it sound more natural and idiomatic: Calcutta, the last major metropolis with a traditional rickshaw fleet still in operation, had banned this form of transportation last week , following a new law passed by the state , declaring the vehicles inhumane.
