Double negation

Hello,

Is saying "Don't tell me what not to do" is like saying "Tell me what to do"?

Thank You

No, it isn't. The sentence "Don't tell me what not to do" means that you should not tell me the things I should not do. Maybe I know what is wrong to do, what I should not do, by myself, and I don't need you to tell me that information.
