I agree, in principal. However, after asking several of my friends to pronounce the phrase "double-edged sword," it seems that

I agree with Phillip, that's how I pronounce it.

I'd like to chime in with my agreement about what Philip said. Unless you are speaking extremely slowly and deliberately, saying 'double-edged sword' would usually end up sounding like 'double-edge sword' when spoken.
