Double doors or a double door

Hi. Let's say there are two doors that slide off each other (I hope I'm describing them correctly) and one has to go through them to go into a room. When you want to go into the room, you can slide one door to the side to enter the room. Are the following correct? Thank you in advance for your help.

1. He went through the double doors to go into the room.

2. He went through a double door to go into the room.

I would not argue with either one, but you might consider what you would write if there were two double doors.
